Cats and Flowers

Eleanor thinks that all flowers brought into our house are for her. She smells them, snuggles next to them and just has an all around happy look on her face.

Sid just wants to eat them.

Paying Tribute to Two Very Special Dads

Nick and Shorty in Hobbit Land
One has been in my life for almost 40 years. The other only two.  But each of these gentlemen have taught me so much about myself and what I am capable of.  I am unbelievably lucky to have them both.  I love them beyond measure!

Chicken-proofing Herb

Herb the flower and herb garden has been pretty well destroyed...thanks to the damn chickens! The big ones started it, digging up the mulch and trompling my flowers.  Flacco the rooster got hosed repeatedly before he finally left it alone. Then the little ones figured out that they could fit through the slats of the fence.  Nick put a stop to that with chicken wire.

But we still needed a gate.  So I got the bright idea to use a cattle panel as an entryway trellis and made an impromptu gate with chicken wire and bamboo poles.

I planted morning glories and sweet peas on one side and moonflowers on the other.  I can't wait to see this trellis covered!  And as for what the chickens tore up, I'll have to replant.

Also, as I was setting up a tomato trellis in the veggie garden, this little guy came by to check things out:

Road Trip to Rockland

Sometimes, when life just gets out of control, a trip to the ocean is necessary.  We climbed rocks, listened to the waves and the gulls, collected rocks and shells, played in the water and just sat in our own little state of zen, watching sailboats lazily heading out to sea.

The Fiber Frolic

Over the weekend, we hit the Maine Fiber Frolic at the Windsor Fairgrounds.  This has become a must attend event for us.  I get to drool over the yarn and fiber and fun tools to create things with that yarn and fiber, while Nick and Ellie (who insists that her name is now Shorty) get to squee and awe over bunnies and goats and sheep.

Oh, who am I kidding?  I was squeeing over the animals more than Shorty was!  How can you not when you capture a moment like this:

I think we all spent our time there imagining our own future farm and what kind of animals we would have. Our own farm can't come soon enough!
